چکیده

We introduce a new class of polynomials {Pn}, that we call polar Legendre polynomials, they appear as solutions of an inverse Gauss problem of equilibrium position of a field of forces with n + 1 unit masses. We study algebraic, differential and asymptotic properties of this class of polynomials, that are simultaneously orthogonal with respect to a differential operator and a discrete-continuous Sobolev type inner product. Acoustic scattering by a sphere in the time domain

A sound pulse is scattered by a sphere leading to an initial–boundary value problem for the wave equation. A method for solving this problem is developed using integral representations involving Legendre polynomials in a similarity variable and Volterra integral equations. The method is compared and contrasted with the classical method, which uses Laplace transforms in time combined with separa...

On the gravitational field of static and stationary axial symmetric bodies with multi-polar structure

We give a physical interpretation to the multi-polar Erez-Rozen-Quevedo solution of the Einstein Equations in terms of bars. We find that each multipole correspond to the Newtonian potential of a bar with linear density proportional to a Legendre Polynomial. We use this fact to find an integral representation of the γ function. These integral representations are used in the context of the inver...

Numerical solution of nonlinear Hammerstein integral equations by using Legendre-Bernstein basis

In this study a numerical method is developed to solve the Hammerstein integral equations. To this end the kernel has been approximated using the leastsquares approximation schemes based on Legender-Bernstein basis. The Legender polynomials are orthogonal and these properties improve the accuracy of the approximations. Also the nonlinear unknown function has been approximated by using the Berns...
